The building was officially dedicated July 24, 1975, but was already partially functioning in 1972. The architect for the building was George Cannon Young. Completed in 1972, the 28-story building stands at 420 feet and is the second-tallest building in Salt Lake City. Today, visitors to Historic Nauvoo, whether in person or online, can discover the city where Joseph Smith received important revelations, apostles left on missions, tradespeople supported the economy, and the Relief Society cared for those in need. The Church Office Building is home to administrative support staff of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The community came together to not only build the temple, but complete important ordinances for both themselves and their ancestors. The focal point in the landscape and in the lives of the Latter-day Saints was the Nauvoo Temple. The latest monthly update includes eight photos and short descriptions depicting various views of the Temple Square renovation and Church Office Building plaza projects in July, according to a news release Friday. Nauvoo, located in western Illinois, was an important city in the early Church. As of this month, the Salt Lake Temple renovation project has been underway for a year and a half. This page will be updated throughout the transition. All three locations will be open for public tours beginning March 25. On March 5, 2024, the Church acquired Joseph Smith’s Red Brick Store, the Smith Family Homestead, and the Mansion House.
